Smoke Damage Restoration

Smoke travels farther than flame, and it keeps working after it settles.

Most smoke damage calls come from events that never made the news: a kitchen fire that was out in minutes, a furnace puff back, or smoke drifting in from a fire next door. The flames never touched most of the house, but the smoke did, and in the tightly sealed newer subdivisions around Buford, Suwanee, and Cumming it has nowhere to go. Smoke restoration starts with a fact most cleanup gets wrong: there is no single kind of smoke, and the wrong cleaning chemistry sets the residue into the surface permanently.

Not all smoke is the same

Dry smoke from a fast, hot fire powders and vacuums away. Wet smoke from a slow, smoldering fire smears into a greasy film. Protein residue from a kitchen fire is nearly invisible, smells far worse than it looks, and bonds to surfaces when the wrong cleaner touches it. We test the residue before anything is cleaned, because the identification decides the chemistry, and the chemistry decides whether a surface is saved or replaced.

Where smoke hides

If the HVAC system ran during or after the event, smoke went through the returns and deposited through the ductwork and air handler, and running the system afterward redistributes it. Smoke also works into wall cavities, attic insulation, and the pores of unfinished wood. That is why a house can look clean and still smell: the visible soot was never the whole problem, and North Georgia humidity reactivates odor compounds that seemed gone.

Deodorization is a process, not a spray

Lasting odor removal runs in order: remove the source residue first, clean what remains, scrub the air with HEPA filtration while the work happens, and then treat the structure and cavities with equipment built for the purpose. Contents and textiles get the same discipline, sorted into salvageable and non-salvageable on site with both lists documented for your claim, and specialty cleaning coordinated for the items that need it.
